Abstract

Little work has been done on Potassium and Zinc in combination with Farm Yard Manure under rainfed and irrigated conditions in NWFP. Thus this study was designed to examine the effects of irrigated and un irrigated cropping patterns and organic and in organic fertilizers on wheat crop. Two separate experiments were conducted under un irrigated and irrigated conditions at Agricultural Research Farm of NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar and Agricultural Research Station, Serai Naurang Bannu for two years during 2001 2002 and 2002 2003. The experiments were designed in RCB design with split arrangements. Two factors in both the experiments were studied. The effects of five cropping patterns and three organic and in organic fertilizers on subsequent wheat crop were observed. Data were recorded on phonological, physiological parameters, yield and yield components of wheat in the both experiments. Days to emergence, Emergence m-2, days to anthesis, days to maturity, plant height, thousand grain weight, grains per spike, seed fill duration and harvest index were non-significant at irrigated site, while leaf area / tiller, leaf area index, liters m-2, biological, straw and grain yields were statistically significant. More, leaf area, index and tiller m 2 was produced by wheat following pigeon pea. Highest biological, straw and grain yields were produced by wheat following pigeon pea (8091 kg ha 1), (2856 kg ha 1) and (5235 kg ha 1) respectively. Emergence m-2 , Days to emergence, Days to maturity, days to anthesis , seed fill duration and grains per spike were non significant at un irrigated site, while leaf area / tiller ( cm 2 ), leaf area index, tillersm 2, plant height, thousand grain weight, harvest index, harvest index and teller plants were produced by wheat following fallow. Heavier grains were produced by wheat fallowing pigeon pea. Highest biological (3193 kg ha 1) were produced by wheat fallowing mung bean. Based on two years average, it is concluded from this study that, wheat in pigeon pea, wheat, cropping pattern produced the highest yield among the different cropping patterns followed by rice wheat under irrigated conditions while wheat following mug bean produced more yield and wheat following ground nut produced less yield under rain fed conditions.
