Abstract

Phytochemical investigations of the aerial parts of Blumea oblique are presented in this thesis. Pet-ether soluble part of the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Blumea oblique has yielded nine bithiophene acetylenes (85-93). Compounds 85-88 are new natural products. The compound 93 has been mentioned in one of the bohlmann’s papers but no physical or chemical data are available anywhere in the literature. The rest of the bithiophenes are isolated for the first time from blumea oblique. Some known compounds (94-97) have also been isolated, 97 is being reported for the first time from B. Obliqua.
