Chemical investigations on the leaves of Alstonia macrophylla and Solanum albicaule are presented in this thesis.
The research work on the alkaloidal contents of the leaves of A. macrophylla (part A) has led to the isolation and characterization of twelve indole alkaloids. Of these eight were new , two were new form this source and remaining two were reported.

The structures of all these alkaloids have been elucidated on the basis of modern spectroscopic techniques such as ID and 2D-nmr (COSY, NOE, HOHAHA, 13C-nmr), inverse nmr experiments (HMQC, HMBC), mass spectroscopic techniques (EI, FD, FAB, HR), IR and UV spectra.
