Abstract
The present research was designed to study the psychological effects of Father’s substance addiction upon the Adult children. It was hypothesized that adults children of substance addicts will suffer more form psychological problems (depression, hypochondriasis, hysteria, psychastenia, paranoia, hypomania, schizophrenia and psychopathic personality disorders) and will be more socially introvert as compared to adult children of non-addicts. A sample comprised of 100 adults children, 50 adults children of substance addict fathers and 50 adult children of non-addicts fathers, matched on the variables of age, sex residential rears, family structure and martial status. Each group included 27 adults sons and 23 adult daughters. The sample of first group was approached through different detoxification centers of Karachi. The second samples was from the neighbor hood of the first group.

In order to study the psychological problems a structured interview form (Intake Card and Case History Sheet of Institute of Clinical Psychology, University of Karachi) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory( MMPI) Urdu version were administered on children of both the group individually t test for independent mean, pearson product moment correlation and Regression model were applied for statistical analysis of data. It was found that adults children of substance addicts suffer significantly more form depression, psychasthenia, paranoia, hypomania, psychopathic personality disorders and are more socially introvert as compared to adults children of non addicts, but they do not differ on the variables of schizophrenia, hypochondriasis and hysteria. There was also no significant difference between adults sons and daughters of substance addicts variables of depression, hysteria and psychopathic personality disorder.

Additional findings indicate that level of aggression in adults children of substance addicts is high as compared to children of non-addicts. Their parents also seem to have more disturb relationship.

Recommendation and Avenues for further research have also been suggested
