Abstract The work embodied in this thesis has been divided into two parts. The structure elucidation and characterization of terpenic constituents isolated from perovskia abrotanoides Kiril (syn. P. artemisoides Boiss) have been included in PART-A. This work was completed under the supervision of Prof: Viqar Uddin Ahmad, Co-Director, H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi. The PART-B of this thesis is concerned with the microbiological hydroxylation of steroids by Cephalosporium aphidicola. The biotransformation work was done under the guidance of Dr. J.R. Hanson in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, University of Sussex, England, as a part of link programme between H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi and University of Sussex. (PART-A). Terpenic constituents of pervskia abrotaniodes Kiril (Syn. P. artemisoides Boiss). The PART-A is composed of three chapters. The first chapter describes the general introduction, biosynthesis of terpenoids and literature survey on Pervskia genus with special emphasis on the phytochemical studies of perovskia abrotanoides. The second chapter deals with the present work which describes the structure elucidation of the terpenoids isolated from perovskia abrotanoids.
