Abstract The thesis describes the synthetic modifications of the alkaloids of Catharanthus roseus. The aim of carrying out these modifications was to test the modified new derivatives for antitumor activity. The nitro and bromo derivatives of leurosine and leurosinone were synthesized for this purpose. Anhydrovinblastine has been synthesized by four different methods. The chemical investigations have been carried out on sphearanthus indicus. Rhazya stricta and Carhranthus roseus, which led to the isolation of two new sesquiterpenes, there new indole alkaloids and two known indole alkaloids have also been isolated form these plants.
