Abstract
The Present doctoral thesis deals with the chemical studies on Daphne oleoides which has led to the isolation and structure elucidation of two dimeric sesquiterpenes lactone, namely seemarin and anabsinthin, a dicoumarin glycoside, gulsamanin, a new coumarinolagnoid glycoside, daphneticin-4ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ-o-a-D-glucophranoside, a phenylpropanoid glycoside, [4-(3-hydroxy-1-E-propenyl)-3-7ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ,9-epoxylignan and lup 20 (30)-ene-3 a, 29-diol. A further new natural product p-propoxy benzoic acid was also isolated. Twenty one known compounds including five triterepenes, three steroids, three coumarin glycosides, two lignans, four phenylpropanoid glycosides, two benzoic acid derivatives, a coumarinolignoid and a flavonoid have also been isolated for the first time from this species.
