ISOLATION AND STRUCTURAL STUDIES ON THE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF FUMARIA INDICA AND RELATED MEDICINAL PLANTS

Abstract

During our studies on the constituents of Fumaria indica and F. flabellate, eight new alkaloids from F. Indica have been isolated and identified. These all were isoquinoline bases. In addition twenty known alkaloids have been reported for the first time from these plants and detailed spectroscopic studies were conducted. The purification of alkaloids was one by using chromatographic techniques (flash, column, thin layer, and HPLC). The structures of the alkaloids were identified on the basis of spectral data (mass, UV, IR, 1H-NMR, COSY-45o, NOE, 13C-NMR, GASPE, DEPT). The screening of crude extracts of aerial parts of F.
