Abstract
This thesis is presented in two parts. The Part-A describes the syntheses of polysubstituted chiral tetrahydrofurans from the readily available carbohydrate precursors including D-glucose, D-mannose and D-galactose, respectively. The Part-B of the thesis describes the control of diastereoselectivity by remote substituents.
