Abstract The purpose of the study was two-fold: (1) to identify the factors associated with college effectiveness and (2) to make suggestions for the improvement of educational effectiveness at college level. Three principal hypotheses were formulated: (1) There is no significant difference between the principals of the effective and ineffective colleges in respect of their self-concept. (2) There is no significant difference between teachers of the effective and ineffective colleges in their quality of work life. (3) There is no significant difference between students of the effective and ineffective colleges in their perception toward their colleges. Methodology. The hypotheses were tested with the aid of the t-test of significance. In addition, a comprehensive item-wise analysis of the questionnaires was made using the t-test and the chi-square test. Findings. The first principal hypothesis was upheld while the other two were rejected. Item-wise analysis of the questionnaires yielded the following findings: . Principals of the effective colleges in contract to their counterparts (1) give more priority to discipline in the colleges and (2) show more commitment to their institution. . Teachers of the effective colleges in contrast to their counterparts (1) take more interest in their colleges and (2) get more cooperation of their students in the teaching-learning process. . Students of the effective colleges in contrast to their counterparts (1) take more pride in their colleges and (2) think that merit receives more priority in their colleges. Recommendations. (1) The movement of college effectiveness research should be continued with unabated vigour, (2) the reform of the colleges should be based on the findings of the college effectiveness research, and (3) the development planning of education in Pakistan should be firmly anchored on scientific research in the field education.
