Dardass, Abdul Khaliq (1999) SPECTROSCOPIC AND CHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF SALVIA TRILOBA AND RELATED PLANT SPECIES. PhD thesis, University of Karachi, Karachi.
This thesis describes phytochemical investigations on the chemical onstituents of two plants: Salvia triloba and Calamintha incana both belong o the family Lamiaceae (Labiatae). Part :A: deals with the phytochemical investigation on Salvia triloba, whereas Part :B: of the thesis comprises studies on chemical constituents of Calamintha incana. The research work resulted isolatuion and characterization of four new natural products. In addition to four new constituents. Thirteen known components have been isolated, and characterized for the first time from these species, along with three known compound previously reported in literature. The new constituents isolated from S. Triloba are Palestinol(1) (Fitoterapis)(1999) 70, 326) Akymman (2) and Akyordan (3), (Fitoterapis submitted) and from C. incana alquds (1). (Z. Naturforsch. (1999) 54b, 569). The compound isolated for the first time from S. triloba included betulinic acid (4), uvaol (5) 5-hydroxy-7,4-dimethoxyflavone (7), 5-hydroxy-6,7,4-trimethoxyflavone (8) (x-spinasterol (9) and from C. incana are 5,7-dihydroxy-6,4-dimethoxyflavone (2), 3.5-dihydroxy-7,4-dimethoxyflavone (3) 3-o-rutinosyl-5,7,3, 4-tetrahydroxy (4), stigmasterol (5), stimasterol-3-O-glucoside (6). The known compounds isolated and characterized from S. triloba include oleanolic acid (6) B-sitosterol (10) and B-stimasterol (11). The structure elucidation of all the compounds were carried out by using modern spectroscopic techniques, including, 1-H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, HMGC, COSY-45, EIMS, CI, FD. FABs, -ve and +ve Amss IR and UV etc.
