This thesis in divided into two parts. Part-A describes the isolation and structural studies of three novel flavones from inula grantioides Boiss. In addition, eight other known compounds have also been isolated for the first time from this plant, they are; a sesquiterpene, two known flavones, three triterpenes, a sterol and its glycoside.

of this thesis deals with the isolation and structure elucidation of two new spermidine alkaloids from Capparis deciduas (Forssk.) Edgew. Spermidine alkaloids are macrocyclic alkaloids containing, hydroxylated, methoxylated, trains cinnamic acid residues which are linked to each other through oxygen bridge and to spermidine, through amide bonds. These type of compounds may exist in two region isomeric forms with respect to spermidine moiety. Their structure can only be confirmed by X-rays crystallography or through mass spectral fragmentation pattern.
