SOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF ERBERIS ARISTATA, FAGONIA INDICA (F. CRETICA) AND DAUCUS CAROTAAnsari, Akbar Ali (1993) SOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF ERBERIS ARISTATA, FAGONIA INDICA (F. CRETICA) AND DAUCUS CAROTA. PhD thesis, University of Karachi, Karachi.
AbstractThe work described in this thesis relates to detailed chemical investigations carried out on Berberis aristata and fagonia indica as well as some preliminary studies undertaken on Daucus carota. These studies have resulted in the isolation of 21 different compounds, 5 of which were found to be new. The first chapter of thesis deals with the isolation and structure elucidation of six different alkaloids from Berberis aristata. Two of these named ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂKarachineÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàand ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂTaxilamineÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàwere found to be new. ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂKarachineÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàis the most complex of more than fifty protoberberine alkaloids presently known and is the first naturally occurring berbinoid incorporating acetone units. ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂTaxilamineÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàis a pseudobenzylisoquinoline alkaloid and it is fourth member of this family. The second chapter of the thesis deals with the isolation and structure elucidation of eight different compounds from Fagonia indica. A new sapogenin named ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂNahageninÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàhas been isolated and its structure and identified as 28-0-B-D-glucopyranosyl-3-0-B-D-glucopyranosyl hederagenin and 28-0-B-D-glucopyranosyl glucopyranosyl-3-0-B-D-glucopyranosyl hederagenin. The last chapter of the thesis deals with isolation and preliminary structural studies on the chemical constituents of Daucus carota from which seven different compound have been isolated.
