Abstract
The present thesis is composed of two parts. The Part-I describes the studies on the chemical constituents of Nepeta hindostana Roth Haines, (syn. Glechoma erecta Buch, Gelchoma hindostana Roth, N. ruderalis Hamilt, N. calaminthoides Royle ex Benth.) belonging to the isolation and structural elucidation of four new triterpenoids which were named as nepehinol (1) nepetidone (2) nepehinal (4) and nepedinol (5). These compounds belongs to the lupine series of triterpenoids. Nepehinol (1) was isolated from the column chromatography of the hexane extract of Nepeta hindostana, while the rest of the compounds were isolated form the ethanolic extract of this plant.
