Abstract

Muslims took especial interest in the Book of their Lord by collecting, memorizing, interpreting and studying it. Interpretation being most important in Quranic Sciences, it called for more attention of the Muslims. Some scholars focused on the jurisprudential and legal aspects of interpretation as they were badly in need of it. Differences in the interpretation of legal verses: The Holy Quran contains two types of verses i.e. 1. Unambiguous verses and firmly constructed verses 2. Ambiguous and con-similar verses. The difference occurred in this kind. Importance of the subject As the difference in judicial laws have resulted in sever verbal clashes in Indo-Pak subcontinent so, I have taken upon myself to study the difference, objectively so that it may not become a source of trouble. I have undertaken to discuss only a branch of the phenomenon of differences which leads to severe verbal campaign. This is to participate in laying the foundation of following objects. 1. To achieve relations between the scholars and Islamic sects in a healthy way despite difference in judicial matters. 2. To be aware of the reality of this difference. 3. To ascertain the precision of the principles of interpretation on which the difference is based. 4. To maintain the energy and indemnity of the principles to applied study. 5. To participate in a modest way mature writings about the principles of interpretation. I have selected the above mentioned three books on following grounds. 1. These are special books on interpretation of legal verses 2. They represent the three schools of thought. As regards Hambalite school of thought I have found no published book on this subject. 3. In these three books we find the roots of and intellectual movements as represented in debates among there authors. 4. These three exegeses are unique as they have been written by distinguished personalities of Muslims. Methodology The main points of my methodology are as under: Discussion about the influence of reasons for differences in interpreting the legal verses This is the model study and not a thorough examination. The discussion revolves round the study of phenomenon of difference, particularly in interpretation of legal verses. One text is sufficient for giving examples of more than one principle. Restriction to those principles which effect difference. Resort to the original source of any religions school of thoughts. Reference of Quranic verses according to their place in chapters. Documentation of Ahadith referred in the thesis. Biography of eminent man mentioned in the thesis. The dissertation contains a preface, an introduction and five chapters
