Abstract
Four different field experiments were conducted to study the effect of radiation and benzyl adenine on local peach seedlings and peach (Early Grand) and apricot (Travett) scions on local peach seedlings at the Horticultural Farm NWFP agricultural University Peshawar 2000-2002.

In the first experiment peach stones were treated with four different levels of radiation i.e 10, 20, 30 and 40 Kr from Co60 and compared for different growth parameters with control. The experimental results indicated that all the radiation doses had significantly affected plant growth. Maximum germination percentage, plant height, seedling diameter, number of leaves, number of nodes, number of branches, number of roots, root length and plant weight was obtained in untreated plants in both one and two years old seedlings while minimum of these parameters was observed in the irradiated plants. The higher radiation dose decreased the above parameters significantly than other treatments.

In the second experiment peach kernels were treated with four different concentrations of benzyl adenine i.e 100, 200, 300 and 400mg/I and compared for different growth parameters with control. The BA doses decreased the germination percentage, root length and seedling weight only in one year old seedlings than control. No significant differences were noted in other parameters. Maximum seedling height, seedling diameter, number of roots and root length were observed in two years old seedlings while minimum number nodes, number of roots and root length were recorded at 400mg/I, 200mg/I BA concentrations respectively. However no significant differences were recorded in plant height, diameter, and number of branches among the different BA concentrations.

In the third experiment peach and apricot scions were treated against different levels of radiation i.e 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 Kr and compared for different growth parameters with control. Maximum bud-take success buddling height, buddling diameter, number of nodes, number of leaves, number of branches, root length and plant weight were recorded in the control while a decrease occur in all the above parameters in the radiation doses in both one year old and two years old peach and apricot buddlings. The radiation doses dwarfed the peach and apricot scions on local peach seedlings.

In the fourth experiment the effect of different concentrations of benzyl adenine on peach and apricot scions budded on peach seedling cv. Peshawar local were studied. Four different concentrations of Benzyl adenine (5, 10, 15, and 20mg/I) along with control were compared for germination percentage, plant height buddling diameter, number of leaves, number of nodes, number of braches, number of roots, root length and plant weight. Maximum bud take success and plant height was recorded in the control while minimum plant height was recorded in 10mg/I BA treatments. There was also a decrease in plant height in two years old BA treated peach buddlings than control. Maximum diameter, number of nodes and number of leaves were recorded for control while minimum were recorded in the higher BA doses in one and two years old buddlings. Maximum number of braches was recorded in the 5mg/I BA treatments while minimum number of nodes was recorded in the higher BA dose (20mg/I) in peach buddlings. In case of apricots maximum braches were recorded in all the treatments except 5 and 20mg/I BA doses. Maximum number of roots, root length and plant weight was recorded in the control while the irradiated buddlings showed minimum number of roots, root length and plant weight.
