This dissertation will develop an insight into the development of the comprehensive diagnostic procedures for children with specific learning difficulties in mainstream classrooms. The process of identification with reference to the Specific Learning Difficulties of the children in the classroom is not existent. This could be one of the reasons for large scale drop out in Pakistan. Population of the study was sixth and seventh grade boys and girls students of government schools of Lahore city. Only 1013 students were selected for the whole procedures of the identification of SLD through purposive sampling technique. The design of the study included the preparation of checklist for the screening of Specific Learning Difficulties to diagnose a whole range of disabilities and associated problems based on the teacher's prior observation in the classroom and selection of the criteria for the validation of the checklist for prediction. These criteria were included Ability IQ test and classroom achievements of 6 and 7th grade students in the subject of Urdu.A Test Battery consisting of different tests assessing different problems related with SLD was developed and validated. Validity of the tests was established with content, criterion: cocurrent and discriminant analysis methods. Reliability of the tests was determined with stability coefficient of the test-retest method. Internal Consistency of the tests was analyzed with Cronbach Alpha. Stability reliability was determined with test-retest method for the Test Battery. Item analysis of tests of Test Battery "as made with item threshold/item difficulty and discrimination level. Individual item place scatter plot with respect to the individual and item characteristics were obtained. Item characteristics curves were also obtained. Item Response Modeling Traditional statistics were calculated and arranged for the identification of Basal and Ceiling points for the girls and boys of 6 and 7th.Norms were developed in terms of means, standard deviations and percentiles. Norms for Basal and Ceiling were developed for all the test items according to grade and gender. Identification of the SLD was made with 2 SD discrepancies from the mean scores of each test according to grade and gender. The conclusions of research were that the Screening Checklist and the Test Battery had good content, concurrent, construct, and discriminant validities. Test Battery had good convergent validity, determined with IQ and Urdu tests scores. Similarly, both of the instruments had good reliability in terms of internal consistency and stability. All items of the Test Battery had an adequate item thresholds and discrimination indices. Increase in basal items at higher grade is logically correct, because the items gradually become easy for students in higher grade. Different norms were developed for the girls, boys of 6th and 7th class. The number of students indicated discrepancy in different tests of the Test Battery was 202.
