Masood, Ahmad (1995) PATTERN OF RESIDENTIAL MOBILITY IN BAHAWALPUR CITY. PhD thesis, Islamia University, Bahawalpur.
Intra-urban residential mobility has evoked great interest in the Western World. The same cannot be said about the non-Western cities in Pakistan intra-urban movement of population of not a single city has been attempted. The present study of Bahawalpur city is the first study of its kind. No published data on intra-urban mobility of population is available in Pakistan Population Census of Pakistan has not touched this subject. Estate agencies and telephone directories could have been helpful but no many persons take help of estate agencies for purchase or taking of houses on rent. The facilities of telephone are also enjoyed by a small fraction of population. Therefore the entire data for this study were collected by field survey by questionnaire method. Attempt has been made in this study to make a distinction between voluntary any involuntary moves. The affects of age (life cycle), sex, family size, occupation, education level and increase on residential mobility have been investigated. The role of government and private agencies in generating intra-urban residential mobility by undertaking new housing projects has been probed. Frequency, distance and direction of movements have also been studied. The role of urban structure on guiding residential mobility and the effects of residential mobility on urban structure have also been looked into.
