|
The work embodied in this thesis is divided into two parts. In Part-A the chemical investigation of Salvia moorcroftiana is described. Part-B deals with the chemical investigation of Euphorbia decipiens, which belongs to the genus Euphorbiaceae. The structure elucidation of all isolated compounds described in part A and B were carried out by using various spectroscopic techniques including 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, HMQC, HMBC, COSY-45°, nOe, EI, CI, FD, -ve and +ve FABMS, IR and UV. PART –A Isolation and Structural Studies in the Chemical Constituents of Salvia moorcroftiana: The work on Salvia moorcroftiana has resulted in the isolation and characterization of six new constituents. Out of these four compounds contain flavonoid glycosides skeleton and two are benzene derivatives. In addition to new constituents, nine known compounds have also been isolated and characterized from this species. The new constituents isolated from Salvia moorcroftiana are: Genkwanin-4-O-rhamnosylgalactoside (10), Genkwanin-4-O-arabinosylgalactoside (11), Genkwanin-4-O-dirhamnosylgalactoside (12), Genkwanin-4-O-arabinosyl-rhamnoside (15), Nonyl-4-hydroxy-benzoate (13) and Moorcroftianoside (14). The known compounds isolated from Salvia moorcroftiana are: B-Amyrin (1) 15-Deoxyfuerastione (2), Erythrodiol (3), Luteolin-7-Methyl Ether (4), 5-hydroxy-4, 7-dimethoxy flavone (5), Apigenin (6), Stigmasterol Glucoside (8), B-Sitosterol Glucoside (7) and Apigenin-7-O-B-D-Glucoside (9). PART –B Isolation and Structural Studies in the Chemical Constituents of Euphorbia decipiens Part-B deals with the isolation and characterization of chemical constituents from Euphorbia decipiens, a species of the genus Euphorbiaceae. The compounds isolated from this species includes: 13-Deacetylisodecipidone (1), 13-Deacetylisodecipinone (2), Decipidone (3), Decipinol ester A (4) and Decipinol ester B (5). |
