Abstract
The thesis is concerned with study of the chemical constituents of Andrachne aspera Spreng. The thesis is divided into two parts, first one described the isolation of alkaloids, the second part dealt with the isolation of terpenes and steroids from the plant.

First Par(Pat-A)

The introduction of this part reviews the general historical background of the phytochemical constituents and their medicinal importance, with particular emphases on alkaloids, followed by a bref description of the plant, with past and present work on it. During the phytochemical studies four new alkaloids namely aspertn-A, aspertin-B, aspertin-C and aspertin-D were isolated from andrachne aspera, whose structures were elucidated using modern spectroscopic techniques.

Second Part (Part-B)

This part includes the introduction, experimental, results and discussion on the isolation and structure elucidation of terpenes and steroids. First portion of this part very precisely describe, the nature of terpenes and their classes etc. the results & discussion, experimental parts are concerned with the isolation techniques and structure elucidation of tepenes form Andrachne aspera. Nine known compounds, were isolated and characterized for he first time from this plant.
