Abstract

A comprehensive taxonomic account of Basidiomycota from Northern Area, Pakistan is presented herein. During the present studies, 118 species belonging to 66 genera viz., Agaricus, Chlorophyllum, Lepiota, Macrolepiota, Amanita, Agrocybe, Coprinus, Psathyrella, Entoloma, Leptonia, Hygrophorus, Hygrocybe, Pluteus, Hypholoma, Leucopholiota, Pho/iota, Panaeolus, Stropharia, Clitocybe, Collybia, Lyophyllum, Melanoleuca, Mycena, Ompha/ina, Ripartites, Tricholoma, Xeromphalina, Aureoboletus, Boletus, Krombholziella, Leccinum, Suillus, Gyrodon, Porphyrellus, Tylopilus, Omphalotus, Inocybe, Naucoria, Ramaria, Ganoderma, Inonotus, Bovista, Langermannia, Lycoperdon, Vascellum, Geastrum, Cyathus, Hysterangium, Phallus, Lentinus, Pleurotus, Bjerkandera, Fomes, Heteroporus, Laetiporus, Phaeolus, Rigidoporus, Trametes, Polyporus, Lacterius, Russula, Schizophyllum, Scleroderma, Puccinia, Ustilag and Poronia were collected. Information about habit, habitat, distribution and ethno-botanical uses was also recorded. Of these, 16 genera viz., Chlorophyllum, Leucopho/iota, Ripartites, Ompha/ina, Aureoboletus, Laccinum, Krombholziella, Gyrodon, Porphyrellus, Heteroporus, Phaeolus, Ganoderma, Schyzophyllum, Vascellum, Langermannia and Hysterengium appeared to be new records from Pakistan. Of the recorded fungi, all the 118 species are new records from the Gilgit valley not hitherto reported, whereas, 88 species viz., Agaricus silvicola, Chlorophyllum molybdites, Lepiota sistrata, Macrolepiota rchacodes, Amanita ovoidea, Agrocybe dura, Agrocybe pracecox, Coprinus domesticus, Coprinus picaceus, Psathyrella atomata, Psathyrella leucotephra, Psathyrella obtusata, Psathyrella vernalis, Entoloma hirtipes, Leptonia incana, Hygrophorus marzuolus, Hygrocybe nitrata, Pluteus cervinus, Pluteus petasatus, Hypholoma ericaeum, Hypholoma sublateritium, Leucopholiota decorosa, Pholiota aurivella, Pholiota carbonaria, Pholiota lenta, Stropharia hornimannii, Clitocybe clavipes, Clitocybe inversa, Collybia succinea, Melanoleuca brevipes, Mycena inclinata, Omphalina postii, Ripartites metrodii, Ripartites tricholoma, Tricholoma locale, Tricholoma gambosum, Tricholoma Saponaceum, Tricholoma sejunctum, Xeromphalina campanella, Aureoboletus cramesinus, Boletus aestivalis, Boletus subtomentosus, Krombholziella oxydabilis, Krombholziella scabra, Leccinum croci podium, Leccinum aurantiacum, Suillus bovines, Suillus lute us, Suillus viscidus, Gyrodon lividus, Omphalotus olearius, Porphyrellus psedoscaber, Tylopilus lelleus, Inocybe agardhii, Inocybe geophylla, Inocybe nappies, Naucoria centunculus, Ramaria aurea, Inonotus radiatus,. Cyathus olla, Geastrum sessile, Geastrum vulgatum, Bovista nigrescens, Bovista pusilla, Langermannia gigantea, Lycoperdon lividum, Lycoperdon molle, Vascellum pratense, Heteroporus biennis, Trametes versicolor, Lentinus lepideus, Lentinus tigrinus, Pleurotus dryinus, Polyporus bad ius, Polyporus squamosus, Hysterangium graveolens, Lacterius helvus Lactarius obscuratus, Lacterius pubescens, Lacterius piperatus, Russula cutefracta, Russula nittida, Russula olivacea, Schizophyllum commune, Scleroderma citrinum and Poronia punctata have been recorded for first time from Pakistan. Out of 118 species belonging to 66 genera, 31 families and 16 orders collected during the present studies 42 species appeared to be edible whereas 66 species were inedible. Ten species were plant pathogens
