Abstract
The overall objectives of the study was to develop, a course of study for mild and moderate mentally retarded.

The strategy adopted in the study was experimental and design for null hypothesis were formulated and tested. Three null hypothesis were rejected and one was upheld. It was concluded that the experimental course of study was superior to the traditional course, the population of the study consisted of all the mild and moderate students in the special institutes of Karachi. Two samples were drawn randomly from the population. One sample was exposed to experimental treatment and the other sample was exposed to traditional course. Both these groups were given standardized test as pretest to ensure their equivalence at the end of the experiment which consisted of six months duration the final test was given and the experimental group showed its superiority over the control group. The statistical test of significance used was €œt€ test for independent group and lit" for co-related groups.

The experiment was carried out in (J well equipped room attached to a school with a specially appointed teacher for its purpose. All steps were taken to control threats to experimental validity.

At the end of the experiment, several recommendations were made in the light of the findings for improvement of programs for handicapped children leading to main streaming.
