Abstract
N,N-dialkylbenzylamine and their substituted derivatives were synthesized. These ligands were separated and purified by column chromatography. The purity of these ligands was also checked by TLC plates coated with silica gel. Physical parameters such as melting point, boiling Point, decomposition point, relative density, max, refractive indices, viscosity and surface tension were also determined.

Complexes of these ligands with Co(II), Ni(II) and Fe(II) metals were synthesized In ethanol water mixture. The nature of complexes was evaluated on the basis of spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as IR, AAS, Elemental analysis and XRD.

Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA & DT A) was carried out in order to study relative thermal stabilities and decomposition patterns of the complexes.

Ligands and their complexes were also screened for antimicrobial activity by agar diffusion method against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi respectively.
