Abstract Technical Education emphasizes on teaching and learning practical knowledge relevant to the job requirements in the industrial sector. This study was conducted to investigate the world of work relevance of DAE curricula of the selected three conventional technologies i.e. Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical and three emerging technologies i.e. Food, Instrumentation and Petroleum. The population of the study was all the graduates of the selected technologies of session 1996-99 and their work supervisors. For sample selection, the primary sample units consisted of 30% institutes offering the specified technology with the condition of including all institutes in the sample if the number was equal to or less than five. All the graduates, 507, of the sample institutes and their supervisors constituted the sample. The questionnaire was sent to all the graduates. Out of a total number of 364 respondents only 323 were employed. The questionnaire was mailed to 323 supervisors and 230 responses were received back. The information received from the DAE graduates and their immediate supervisors was analyzed by competencies and by broad areas of competencies grouped together as clusters. The mean weights of each competency as well as for clusters were calculated for determining the degree of relevance of curricula. The curricula of Electrical, Electronics, Food and Petroleum technology were found generally relevant to the need of the job market with minor changes required under certain subjects. The curricula of Instrumentation technology were considered only partial or somewhat relevant requiring detailed review of the concepts included in the subjects of Microprocessor Applications, Electricity Principles, Industrial Instrumentation and Control, Instrumentation Servicing and Calibration and Industrial Electronics. The curricula of Mechanical Technology were found in need of partial modification .particularly in the subjects of Metallurgy, Applied Electricity and Electronics, Thermodynamics and Energy Conservation.
