Abstract
Uranium (VI) and thorium (IV) complexes with neutral organic and anionic ligands have been synthesized in this work. The organic ligands selected were N, N€™-dimethylbenzylamine and derivatives such as those containing €“NH2-OH, -NO2, CI- -Br and €“COOH groups in the benzene ring. And the anionic ligands taken CI- NO3-and SO42-. The stoichiometry of the complexes was established on the basis of the elemental analysis.

Analytical evaluation of complexes, thermogravimetric , differential thermal analysis, XRD, infrared and NMR spectral data of the complexes were taken. The antibacterial antifungal activity of the complexes synthesized were also investigated.

The nature of the bonding of the ions Th4+ and U6+ as UO22+ with tertiary nitrogen atom of the N group and functional group on the benzene ring of the dimethlbenzylamine and the anionic ligands has been discussed. Based upon the above said data, the structural patterns and the geometry of the complexes synthesized were established and the coordination behaviour of Th4+ through ion UO22+ has been discussed. Further, the complexes were found to have well-defined antibacterial and antifungal activities.
