Abstract
The present study on Abelmoschus esculentus reports the morphogenetic effect of maturely occurring growth regulators i.e. IAA and GA3. The following concentrations were applied, 50 ppm IAA, 100 ppm IAA, 220 ppm IAA, 300 ppm IAA, 50 ppm GA 3, 200 ppm and 300 ppm GA3. In combinations i.e. 250 ppm IAA+ 50 ppm GA3, 200 ppm IAA + 100 ppm GA3 , 150 ppm IAA+150 ppm GA3 , 100 ppm IAA + 200 ppm GA3 and 50 ppm IAA + 250 ppm GA3. Effects if these treatments were recorded and compared with control plants. The effects on external as well as internal morphology were observed. In the external morphology applied IAA registered expansion in the radial diameters of hypocotyls, petioles and stem. However increase in the length of petioles, with applied IAA was also recorded. Flowering was early at 300 ppm IAA, fruit showed increased length and diameter when compared with control. Applied GA3 proved to be inhibitory so far as the diameter was concerned. But the length of hypocotyls and stem was markedly increased. The fruit registered inhibition in length and diameters. Likewise the quantitative production of fruit was less than fruit produced by the IAA treated plants. In the mixed doses the highest concentrations mixed with the lowest concentrations revealed the results which were expected of the highest doses. In the internal morphology, the cells showed expansion with applied IAA, but inhibition in length. Applied GA3 on the other hand caused inhibition in diameter and increased the cell length. In the mixed doses no regular pattern was observed. The highest doses proved to be dominating, while the lowest doses more or less revealed suppression.
