The work embodied in this thesis is presented in two parts. Part-A describes the isolation and structure elucidation studies in the chemical constituents of Polianthes tuberose Linn.
Part-B deals with methods development and methods validation of actives and vehicles in pharmaceutical formulations using high performances liquid chromatography.
Part-A The introduction of Part-A provides a review of the early contributions made in the chemistry and a brief account of present work. Studies under taken in the chemical constituents of Polinathes tuberose Linn. have resulted in isolation and structure elucidation of twelve compounds including five new, three unreported and four known constituents, from the investigated species.

Part-B This part of thesis deals with the studies on the development of new methods and method Validation of actives and vehicles in Pharmaceutical formulations.
i)The work has effected into a new reversed phase separation technique fro the determination of Corticosteroids and Aromatic Alcohols in Pharmaceutical formulations. This is a state-of-art separation technique and is simple , quick and has been completely validated. The work was also presented in the 7th International Symposium on Natural Product Chemistry organized by HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, on Dec, 28,1997 –Jan 1,1998, under head: “A new Separation Technique for the determination of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids and Aromatic alcohols”
ii)The reversed chromatographic method for the determination of sulphamathazine and trimethoprim in pharmaceutical suspensions is also a quick, simple and reliable method. Its complete validation has rendered it as milestone on way to Research and Development work. This work happened to be a prize winner during the 7th international Symposium on Natural Product Chemistry, organized by International Centre for Chemical Sciences ,H.E.J Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, Dec, 28,1997-Jan 1,1998.
