Abstract
The present investigation on stored grain pest C. analis included various aspects i.e. study of effects of different diets on fecundity, effects of different diets on enzyme levels, toxicity of pesticides, effects of pesticides on enzyme levels, histochemcial localization of protein bands by PAGE in normal and treated insects, in insects reared on different pulses and quantitative recovery of pesticides by HPLC in the treated insects

Three compounds i.e neem oil, deltamethrin and dimethoate were studied for its toxicity against C. analis. LC50 values caused by neem oil, deltamethrin and dimethoate were found to be 46.25% 0.00628% and 0.0008408%, respectively. On the basis of effeiciency, the tested compounds could be arranged in descending order as dimethoate > deltamethrin > neem oil

Biochemcial analysis was done on total protein content, FAA, total esterase, acetylcholinesterase, phosphomonoesterase (acid and alkaline phosphatase) and transaminases (GOT and GPT). Neem oil inhibited total protein (5.89%), FAA (1.57%), total esterase (61.70%), acetylcholinesterase (9.96%), alkaline phosphatase (supernatant, 29.57%), alkaline phosphatase (pellet, 3.16%) GOT (13.60%) and GPT (16.28%)

Deltamethrin inhibited total protein (49.86%), FAA (16.06%), total esterase (74.67%), acetylcholinesterase (42.08%), acid phosphatase (supernatant, 13.28%), acid phosphatase (pellet, 16.23%) alkaline phosphatase (supernatant, 55.40%), alkaline phosphatase (pellet, 50.00%), GOT (7.02%) and GPT (14.12%)

Dimethoate inhibited total protein (88.78%), FAA (31.06%), total esterase (85.16%), acetylcholinesterase (57.47%), acid phosphatase (supernatant, 17.17%), acid phosphatase (pellet, 30.89%), alkaline phosphatase (supernatgant, 58.05%), alkaline phosphatase (pellet, 50.86%) GOT (1.32%) and GPT (12.82%)

Five pulse seeds i.e. green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea were selected for studying preferential egg laying and developmental behaviour. Average incubation period of C. analis was 26, 25, 32, 25, and 67 days on green gram lentil, black gram, gram and pea respectively. Percentage emergence was 80%, 72%, 61%, 29% and 3% green gram, lentil, black gram and peas, respectively

Biochemical analyses on protein, FAA and enzyme levels of C. analis reared on different five pulses were made. The average protein content was 0.00426, 0.00218, 0.00276, 0.00520 and 0.535 μg/mg of protein in C.analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively. Average total esterase activity was 660, 325, 416, 381 and 458 μg/mg of protein in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively The average acetylcholinesterase activity was 39.0, 6.0, 24.8, 16.4 and 32.2 U/L in C. analis reared on green gram, letil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively. Average acid phosphatase activity in supernatant was 228.2, 114.8, 148.4, 173.0 and 289.6 μg/mg of protein in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively and acid phosphatase activity in pellet was 62.4, 32.8, 46.6, 49.6 and 63.2 μg/mg of protein in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively. Alkaline phosphatase activity in supernatant was 81.0, 37.6, 72.0, 23.0 and 34.4 μg/mg of protein in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea respectively and alkaline phosphatase activity in pellet was 68.2, 24.0, 49.6 12.8 and 13.2 μg/mg of protein in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram and pea respectively. The average GOT activity was 454, 516, 372, 448 and 418 U/L in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively and the average GPT activity was 1404, 1286, 1642, 1288 and 1626 U/L in C. analis reared on green gram, lentil, black gram, gram and pea, respectively

Histochemical localization was done by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis in C. analis treated with pesticides and in C. analis reared on different 5 pulses. Neem oil treated insects has 7, deltamethrin treated insect has 6 and dimethoate treated insect has 10 protein band whereas C. analis reared on moong shows10, on lentil shows 9, on black gram shows 8, on gram shows 7 and on pea shows 9 protein bands

Quantitative analysis of pesticides in treated insects was done by HPLC. The recovery of neem oil, deltamethrin and dimethoate was 252.63 μg/10 μl, 0.3125 μg/10 μl and 12.5 μg/10 μl in treated insects after 24 hours of treatment, respectively
