Abstract
This thesis presents investigation no two medicinal plants of Pakistan: Tinospora Malabarica and Nigella sativa. Studies on the chemical constituents of the fresh stems of Tinospora malabarica have led to the isolation of four new furanoid diterpenoids: tinosporicide, 10α-hydroxy-columbin, malabarolide and malabarolonide. In addition, three known compounds have also been detected for the first time in this plant. Modern spectroscopic methods were employed to determine their structures including two-dimensional NMR experiments e.g. 2D J-resolved, COSY-45, L.R. COSY, NOESY, Hetero-COSY, L.R. Hetero-COSY. GASPE as well as DEPT experiments were carried out to determine the multiplicity of each carbon atom. Two of these furanoid diterpenoids were of novel skeleton which were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Biosynthetic routes of these diterpenoids are also proposed

Investigation on the chemical constituents of the seeds of Nigella sativa resulted in the isolation of a alkaloid: nigellimine N-oxide. Its structure has also been established by modern spectroscopic techniques. Biosynthetic route to this alkaloid is proposed
