The present studies included the induced effect of pesticides permethrin (pyrethroid) and neem fraction based formulation, Biosal, against agama lizard, Calotes versicolor. All the lizards were collected from Karachi University campus and kept in glass-fronted wooden vivarium. After preliminary experiments of the each under test compound, two different doses were selected for the studies. These doses were 0.1% and 1% for permethrin and 25% and 50% for Biosal. Mortality count was made at 24 hours of post-treatment. Untreated control was also kept as well. Pre-tratment and post-treatment, lizard body weight were also recorded Estimation of various enzymes and protein content has been carried out in treated agama lizards, Calotes versicolor and compared with untreated lizards. It was observed that at the dose of 0.1% and 1% permethrin treated lizards, a total reduction in protein contents was found to be 42% 53% in kidney and 74%, 10% in liver respectively. In the case of Biosal, animals were treated with 25% and 50% concentration and 0.36%, 3.56% in kidney and 1.68%, 2.2% in liver, protein content reduction was observed respectively, as compared to the control The cholinesterase was found to be inhibited by 17%, 19% in kidney and 18%, 24% in liver, respectively, when the animals were treated with permethrin at aforesaid doses. In the case of Biosal treatment, inhibition of cholinesterase was found as 13.6%, 18% in kidney and 39.52%, 56.21% in liver, respectively. An average inhibition in glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) was measured as 13%, 27% in kidney and 37%, 57% in liver under the effects of permethrin, while under the effects of Biosal 13.06%, 18% inhibition in kidlney and 39.52%, 52.61% in liver was observed in GOT An average inhibition of 24%, 32% in kidney and 24%, 30% in liver of GPT activity was found in permethrin treated animals and 25%, 37% in kidney and 28.17%, 33% in liver in Biosal treated animals was observed. HPLC technique was employed for the determination and persistence of applied compounds, i.e. permethrin and Biosal, in treated animals.
