Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to determine the role of family functioning and psychological problems of juvenile delinquents and non delinquents by assessing the difference between the two groups. After detailed literature review it was hypothesized that scores on the variable of Communication, Value and Norms, Affective Expression and Control among family members of juvenile delinquents will be high than non delinquents. Further more scores on the variables of Anger Control Problems, Emotional Distress and Positive Self will also be high of juvenile delinquents. Sample of the present research consisted of 240 adolescents divided into two groups of 120 delinquents and 120 non-delinquents from low socioeconomic status. General Scale of Family Assessment Measure-Version III (FAM-III) was administered in order to measure the level of Communication and Value and Norms whereas Dyadic Relationship Scale was used to measure Affective Expression and Control among the family members of juvenile delinquents and non delinquents. Reynolds Adolescent Adjustment Screening Inventory (RAASI) was administered in order to asses Anger Control Problems, Emotional Distress and Positive Self in juvenile delinquents and non delinquents. t-test was calculated in order to determine the difference in the level of Communication, Value and Norms, Affective Expression and Control among families of juvenile delinquents and non delinquents. Furthermore difference in Anger Control Problem, Emotional Distress and Positive Self between the juvenile delinquents and non delinquents was also determined by calculating t-test. The results showed significant differences on the variable of Communication, Value & Norms, Affective Expression and Control among the family members of delinquents and non delinquents. There is also a significant difference on the variable of Anger Control Problems and Emotional Distress and an insignificant difference on the variable of Positive Self between delinquents and non delinquents. A venues for future research have also been suggested
