Abstract
The external morphology of ten genera and forty four species of the family membracidae, recorded form Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan), has been studied and their comparative and contrasting features have been discussed. The importance of these studies in taxonomy and phylogeny has been projected. In the light of these studies some of the existing concept of their morphology have been revised; phylogentic relationships of these genera have been suggested and the disagreements, in respect of the taxonomic status of some of the genera / named as awania Distant, telingana Distant, Controtoscelus funk, and oxyrhaehis germar have been discussed.
