Abstract

A bio-ecological study for a period of about three years (1967-70) in made. This also included the formation and margin of the lake, its sources and depth of water, the temperature, hydrogen ion concentration, dissolved oxygen contents, as well as the fluctuation in salinity. Fortnightly data of the lake was recorded and studied by the present worker. The entire data has been analyzed statistically and the conclusions drawn presented. The systamatics. Biology and life cycle of Atyid founa of the lake is also studied. The prawns of family atyidae have been recorded for the first time in Pakistan and it has lead to the discovery of one new genus and four new species, which have been fully described and illustrated The population of the Atyid species has been studied with reference to their seasonal, size variation and breeding periods. One of the species has been subjected to a detailed larval and post larval developmental study. A fairly elaborate account of its life history has been illustrated and described. The study is accompanied by a number of graphs, tables, maps and diagrams to explain the biology, ecology and morphology of Atyid special
